WOW WINE - Pillitteri 2016 Exclamation Cabernet Franc (Ontario Wine)

Another in a string of great Cabernet Franc to come out of this winery

Pillitteri 2016 Exclamation Cabernet Franc

The Exclamation Series of wines is only made in those exceptional years, of which 2016 truly fits. This mouthful of goodness doles out tobacco, black cherry and smoky notes with a pretty floral element that help brings the wine together.  (****+)

Hernder Estates 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon - $14.95

The time is right for something easy drinking ... and what could be more easy drinking than this Cab from Hernder.

The Tasting Notes: This one’s easy drinking, with light fruit flavours; mainly raspberry and strawberry notes.  There’s some wood tannins and nic espice that also follows through on the palate.  This one is for drink now enjoyment.  Price: $14.95 – Rating: ***½

Stratus 2007 WildAss Red - $19.95

Today in the podcast I get to say the word "ass" over and over again ...

The Tasting Notes: This wine is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Gamay aged 2 years in French oak – it’s full of ripe red fruit like cherries with cranberry back up for tartness and acidity; there’s also cinnamon, spice and nice tannins.  Price: $19.95 – Rating: ****

Stoney Ridge 2008 Petit Verdot - $28.00

Today's Weekly Wine Note is about a grape variety that we seldom see on a label of Ontario wine.

The Tasting Notes: This wine is fairly easy going, with lots of sour cherry and raspberry fruit, and a touch of spice.  For the record 10% Cabernet Sauvignon was added to the wine.  Price: $28.00 – Rating: ***½

Cattail Creek 2007 Merlot Reserve - $40.00

For those of you on the hunt for more 2007 reds, and ones to lie down for a little bit ... this one's for you; on the other hand, if you have a decanter or a big glass and a big piece of meat - this one would be for you too.

The Tasting Notes: The aromas are smoky, black raspberry with hints of cocoa; on the palate there’s the blackberry and smokiness with that cocoa wrapped in vanilla and all layered with a touch tannins for structure. Price: $40.00 – Rating: ****

Stoney Ridge 2006 Warren Classic Pinot Noir - $15.00

The week before Valentine's Day seems the perfect time to have the Love it or Hate it grape, Pinot Noir, otherwise known as the Heartbreak Grape.

The Tasting Notes: Smoky, leathery and barnyard aromas lead to classic flavours of cherry, cranberry and earthy nuances all wrapped up in some pretty drying tannins. Price: $15.00 – Rating: ***½

Daredevil Wines 2007 Cabernet - $36.00

Another virtual winery has hit the market, so it's time to take a look at their inaugural vintage ... this Cabernet is from that monster 2007 vintage you've heard so much about. I think that's a good omen for a winery to make their debut wine in a good year and bodes well for the future.

The Tasting Notes: I got cranberry, sour cherry, black licorice and earthy aromas, followed by red fruit, some spice, slight yet smooth tannins and good acidity. Price: $36.00 – Rating: ***½
