Reif Estate 2007 Kerner - $14.95

I hear ya, another white, but it's winter ... well I have my reasoning, and if you wanna hear about it you'll need to listen to the Podcast or, if you choose the more boring route, you can just read the tasting notes below (the Podcast is always more fun):

Lovely peach and pear on the nose with the same flavours on the palate … heavy on the juicy pear. Simply lovely … there’s also enough acidity to balance the sweetness off nicely – this one sits at around a two – but is hardly noticeable with all that good fruit.

Hillebrand 2007 Limited Edition Gewurztraminer - $16.95

Today we're going to Hillebrand, where we are going to taste the Limited Edition Gewurztraminer - why all the whites lately you may be asking? Because I want to focus on the sunny and warm, not the bitter cold we going through. Have a listen to the Podcast to find out what bright and sunny tastes like, or, if you choose the more boring route, you can just read the tasting notes below (the Podcast is always more fun):

This Gewurzt starts off with a very Chardonnay-like nose of apples, it really takes some vigourous swirling to get the telltale Gewurzt-characteristics to come out. The palate is the same way, more subtle than in your face and it too needs a lot of coaxing. The taste comes in three stages: an apple beginning, a floral middle and a spicy finish ... quite nice indeed.

13th Street 2007 June's Vineyard Riesling - $17.00

Today it's a return trip to 13th Street where we'll feel the rays of sunshine from a glass - even if we can't feel them on the ground in the dead of winter. With minus 19 staring in the face for the next few days (in Toronto anyway) this will be the wine that'll help you keep in mind "summer does come around" (sooner or later). Have a listen to the Podcast to find out what a pseudo-summertime this will be, or, if you choose the more boring route, you can just read the tasting notes below (the Podcast is always more fun):

A touch of petrol, some apple, a little peach pit and some honey tones get the aromatics of this wine off to a good start. The taste is loaded with lots of apple, some peachiness, petrol in the mid-palate where it then turns minerally and slightly honeyed in the home stretch … good acidity clears the palate and readies it for another sip, with a pleasant lingering finish.

Reif 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve - $24.95

This week we're going to to drink what the MPP's are drinking, as the Monty Pythoners were apt to say, (evoke a British accent) "aren't you lucky" ... have a listen to the Podcast to find out what's being poured at Queen's Park, or, if you choose the more boring route, you can just read the tasting notes below (the Podcast is always more fun):

The nose is loaded with cassis and red berries, there’s also some spice and sour cherry smells in there too … on the palate there’s a little more going on with vanilla, spiced oak, cedary notes, black fruit and fine yet firm tannins.
